The Platte County Detention Center is a modern 180-bed facility that houses local, state and federal detainees at various stages of the criminal justice process. the Detention Division also staffs the Security Services Unit, which is responsible for the safety and security of the Platte County Government Complex including the Courthouse, Administrative Building, Juvenile Annex, and the Tom Thomas Law Enforcement Center. The Security Services Unit provides direct security for the Circuit Court Judges when the courts are in session.

How to Send Mail or Package

Personal mail to inmates is accepted in the form of postcards. The cards should be no larger than 4.25×6” and include the sender’s full name and return address. They may contain no stickers, adhesive labels, watermarks, stains, lipstick, or other foreign substances. Stamps are removed from cards prior to delivery, so metered cards are preferred. Exceptions to the postcard rule for family photos may be submitted by the inmate to the Detention Division Commander. Personal mail to inmates should be addressed as follows:

Deposits may be made to inmates’ commissary accounts using cash or credit/debit cards at a kiosk outside the jail’s visitation entrance or at the Inmate Canteen website.

Visitation Hours

Visitation at Platte County jail is scheduled by housing assignment. Each inmate is provided one thirty-minute visit per designated day. These may be attended by up to three visitors. Minors must be accompanied by their parent or legal guardian.
To determine an inmate’s visitation schedule, go to the “Current In-Custody” link on the Detention Center website to find their housing assignment . Select the detainee’s name and their housing assignment (Cell) will be listed on the right side of the screen. If the inmate is listed as “Municipal/Civil”, “Protective Custody” or “Red-Tag”, a special visit approval is required prior to the visit.

The visitation is schedule as follows:

Visitation for A tank (cell) detainees with civil charges is Sunday from 9-9:30 am or 9:30-10am. A tank detainees with criminal charges may be visited at the same times on Monday and both may be visited on Saturday at 8:30-9pm and 9-9:30pm.

Visitation for B tank detainees is Sunday and Monday from 7:30-8pm or 8-8:30pm. B tank detainees with civil charges may also be visited Saturday at 11-11:30am and those with criminal charges at 2-2:30pm or 2:30-3pm.

Visitation for C tank detainees with criminal charges is Saturday 10-10:30am and 10:30-11am and Monday from 3-3:30pm and 3:30-4pm. Those with civil charges may be visited on Monday from 8:30-9pm and 9-9:30pm. Both may be visited Sundays from 1-1:30pm and 1:30-2pm.

Visitation for D tank detainees is Sunday and Monday from 11-11:30am and 7-7:30pm

Visitation for E tank detainees with criminal charges is Saturday from 3-3:30pm and 3:30-4pm and Monday from 10-10:30am and 10:30-11am. E tank detainees with civil charges may be visited Sunday 9-9:30 am or 9:30-10am. Both may be visited Sundays from 8:30-9pm and 9-9:30pm.

Visitation for F tank detainees is Saturday from 9-9:30 am or 9:30-10am, Sunday from 3-3:30pm and 3:30-4pm, and Monday from 2-2:30pm or 2:30-3pm.

Visitation for G tank detainees is Saturday from 7:30-8pm and 8-8:30pm, Sunday from 10-10:30am and 10:30-11am and Monday from 1-1:30pm and 1:30-2pm.

Visitation for Detainee Workers is Saturday 1-1:30pm and 1:30-2pm and Monday from 8:30-9pm and 9-9:30pm.

Special one hour visits may be approved for those traveling from 150 miles away or more. An inmate may have no more than two special visits in a seven day period. Special Visits are typically scheduled from 12:00 noon to 1:00 pm and 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm daily. Requests may be submitted by email to Jeffrey.Shanks@plattesheriff.org or by the detainee through a Special Visit Request. The request should include the date and indicate if mid-day or evening is preferable. Please note that special visits are scheduled on a first come, first serve basis.

Platte County Public Records Information

Missouri’s Sunshine Law ensures that copies of records kept by government agencies, including the Sheriff’s Office, are made available to the public upon request. Each office is required by law to have a custodian of records who is responsible for responding to public records requests. Requests may be made in any format (i.e. in person, over the phone, or by mail, email, or fax), but written requests are generally preferred. Platte County Sheriff’s Office provides an online records request form that may be filled out and submitted directly to the office. It asks for the contact information of the person making the request and as much detail as possible about the records they are seeking (https://www.fsps.org/member-directory/i.e. type of report, relevant names, dates, and addresses, etc).
