St. Louis City Jail Information and Inmate Search

The St. Louis City Division of Corrections includes two local facilities. The Medium Security Institution was built in 1966 and has a capacity of 1,138 inmates. The City Justice Center was opened in 2002 and has a capacity of 860 inmates.

Inmate rosters for these facilities are searchable online. It requires an inmate’s first and last name to search. Information provided includes the inmates’ identifying details and location. It does not include mugshots. The St. Louis, Missouri government website also hosts an inmate population data dashboard, which provides statistics about those being held in the jails.

How to Send Mail or Package

To find an inmate’s inmate master number (IMN), call (314) 621-5848, press 1 and give the inmate’s name to the operator.

Deposits may be made to inmates’ accounts in person, online, or by phone or mail. There are kiosks in the lobbies of the City Justice Center (CJC) and Medium Security Institution (MSI – Workhouse). The commissary kiosks are separate from the telephone account kiosks. This kiosk charges $3, which is dedicated from the deposit. An inmate master number (IMN) is required. When putting money into a commissary account, precede the MIN with zeros to total 8 digits. For instance, if the MIN is 1234, enter 00001234.

Money orders made payable to the detainee may be sent by mail. They take 1-2 days to process and should be addressed as follows:

Visitation Hours

Inmates may send five Visitor Request Forms to family and friends, which should be completed and mailed to the City Justice Center. A background check will be performed on each potential visitor. Approvals are handled by case workers and their contact information is below.

At MSI, the visitation schedule changes weekly and is based on housing assignment. To ask about the weekly visiting schedule, call (314) 389.4790, ext. 8400. Social visits are held Monday through Sunday for 1 hour between 9am and 9pm. Visitors should arrive 15 minutes prior to the visiting time to register.

At CJC, inmates are permitted 1 visit per week and request the times and dates of their visits. Social visits are held daily for 1 hour from 9am to 9pm. The visit must be requested two days in advance and visitors should arrive 15 minutes early.

Missouri’s Sunshine Law mandates that copies kept by government agencies, including the Sheriff’s Office, be made available to the public on request. Each office is required to have a custodian of records who responds to public records requests. Requests may be made in any format (i.e. in person, by phone, or by mail, email, or fax), but written requests are preferred. Requests should describe the records sought in as much detail as available and provide the contact information of the person making the requests.
